1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

514. Juju – Siouxsie and the Banshees

Brief Background: Juju is the fourth album by English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. The album was recorded and released in 1981.

What I think: While they aren’t a band I would listen to regularly, I really liked this album. It’s quite different than I remember The Scream being. While I liked part of that album it wasn’t interesting enough to hold my attention the whole way. This album again has that Punk/Goth thing going, but the way Siouxsie’s vocals and the guitar (new guitar player John McGeoch) interplay is just amazing. Separately the pieces aren’t all that unique but put together it becomes sort of magical. There are no surprises for my favorites here, the album’s singles “Spellbound” and “Arabian Knights” are the highlights.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? It’s really good, I think it deserves its place much more than The Scream.
