My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Original album is tracks 1-12, oddly enough with the title track excluded from the album.
Brief Background: Kilimanjaro is the debut album by the Liverpool New Wave and Post-Punk band The Teardrop Explodes. The album was released in 1980.
What I think: I’m always excited when an album comes up that I’ve never heard of and that is what happened with this one. I thought maybe it would be a really cool UK New Wave band that has escaped my notice. It is a UK New Wave band with a lot of Post-Punk built in, but it really isn’t all that great.
To me a lot of it sounds a lot like Interpol. To some that may be a great, but for me it’s not an overall enjoyable experience. It didn’t grab me and just floats in the background. Not in a good way either, just in that way that I don’t have anything to write about it. I can say “Treason” has some great moments and “When I Dream” is a really good pop song, but that is about it.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I’ll pass, it’s just not remarkable.
