1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

563. Sister Sledge – We Are Family

Original album is tracks 1-8

Brief Background: We are Family is the third studio album by Sister Sledge. The album was recorded during the end of 1978 and released in January of 1979. The album was produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic. They also, respectively played guitar and bass.

What I think: I guess the main problem I have with disco is that it all sounds so similar to me. With Rodgers and Edwards producing and recording the bass and guitar, they really all sounds like a Chic album. Then you have that four on the floor disco beat and it’s no wonder people became sick of it so quickly. On top of that, It just all feels so awfully cheesy.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? This is an easy pass for me, unfortunately I think we are at peak disco season and there will be a lot of them for me.

Rating (Out of 5): 1/5

Amazon Rating of We Are Family 4.7/5

Is this my first time hearing this album? Yes (338/439)

Amount that are new to me: 77%
