1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

565. The Scream – Siouxsie and the Banshees

Original album is tracks 1-10

Brief Background: The Scream is the first album by British band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was recorded over a week in 1978 and released in November of the same year.

What I think: Siouxsie and The Banshies as a band have never really clicked for me. It is also true that I’ve never really listened to them very closely. In the end that attention led me to be impressed with this album, especially the first half. It really feels like a link between punk and goth to me. “Jigsaw Feeling” really highlights that sentiment and is easily my favorite song on the album.  I also really hear a connection to the shoegaze scene that would come later. The second half leans much more to the punk side and did not as interest me as much.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? It’s good, not great. In the end it is worth your time.

Rating (Out of 5): 3/5

Amazon Rating of The Scream 4.3/5

Is this my first time hearing this album? Yes (336/437)

Amount that are new to me: 77%
