1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

583. Real Life – Magazine

Brief Background: Real Life is the debut album the UK band Magazine.  It was recorded and released in 1978.

What I think: This album has an bit of a unique dynamic in that none of the songs really grab me, but I still want to listen to it again. They sound here is really a new wave/punk sound, with some experimental and avant-garde stuff thrown in. It reminds me of The Cars at times, but isn’t usually as synthy. My favorite songs are probably “My Tulpa” and “Sot by Both Sides” as they are the most accessible, but I can see the others becoming favorites as well.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I do feel it should be here, this is what I love about this project. Something coming out of left field to surprise me.

Rating (Out of 5): 4/5

Amazon Rating of Real Life:  4.7/5

Is this my first time hearing this album? Yes (321/419)

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
