1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

647. That’s the Way of the World – Earth, Wind and Fire

Brief Background: That’s the Way of the World was recorded in September and October of 1974. It was released in March of 1975. The album is also the soundtrack of the 1975 motion picture that bears it’s name.

What I think: These guys are very good at what they do, the talent of the vocals and musicianship displayed here are amazing. Unfortunately, what they do is not for me. It’s too close to Disco and at other times it’s that cheesy “baby making” Soul that makes me cringe.  The one song I did really enjoy is the instrumental “Africano”, I love really fast tempo and the wonderful the hip-hop inspiring flavor of it.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I could have done without this and would have gladly swapped it for something else.

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
