1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

665. Go Girl Crazy! – The Dictators

Brief Background: Go Girl Crazy! is the debut album by The Dictators and was released in March of 1975 on Epic records.

What I think: Wow! What an amazing album this is. It’s official, Punk Rock is here and I’m surprised that I’m surprised by the band that brought it. How have I never heard of them? Why are they never mentioned as one of the bands first Punk bands? Take a listen, it’s like a blueprint for Ramones. You have short punchy songs that throw back to early Rock n’ Roll. You have tongue in cheek smart alec humor and aloof comments on society. You’ve got some ironic covers. I mean, they even do “California Sun” in the same exact style as Ramones only they did it two years earlier. I don’t meant to take anything away from such a great band, but as much as I felt I’ve read on the punk movement, I feel like there has been a serious omission.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? It’s a must, check it out, put it into heavy rotation and then question the accuracy of everything you’ve ever read about music.

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
