My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Original album is tracks 1-9
Brief Background: Recorded in Jamaica in 1973, Natty Dread is the Wailers seventh studio album and the first to be billed as Bob Marley and the Wailers.
What I think: I went through a pretty minor Marley and Reggae phase in my younger days, were I could say I enjoyed it. This album makes me wonder what I ever saw in it. Let me go about that a different way. There is really just one song on here and it’s not a bad song, but the whole album contains that same beat and that similar tempo and it really tires me out quickly. I just need more variety in the music and I don’t find it here. I do have to admit that I really listened to the lyrics of “No Woman, No Cry” this time and realized that he is not saying, “I don’t have a woman, but I’m not going to cry”, but that he is in fact telling a woman not to cry about the difficult situation she finds herself in.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I would pass on it.
