1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

680. Phaedra – Tangerine Dream

Brief Background: Phaedra was recorded by German electronic band Tangerine Dream in the UK during November of 1973 it was released in February of 1974.

What I think: Wow and I thought that Roxy Music album was boring this is a million times worse! It’s just ambient noises for forty minutes. Yikes.

On a serious note though, they do deserve credit for the technological skill it took to do an album like this with no keyboard presets or memory. The synthesizers also sound very modern and it wouldn’t surprise me to hear this was recorded recently.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? A technological advance, yes, but we don’t still sit around and listen to the first voice recordings for the fun of it so let us move on.

Rating (Out of 5): 1

Phaedra Amazon Review (Out of 5): 4.5

Is this my first time hearing this album? Yes (250/322)

Percentage of Albums that are new to me: 78%

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
