1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

689. Inspiration Information – Shuggie Otis

Original album is tracks 1-9

Brief Background: Inspiration Information was recorded in Los Angeles over a three year period from 1971 to 1974. The album was released in November of 1974.

What I think:  Even though this album took three years to record, it still feel incomplete. There are a lot of instrumentals on the second half and even songs that start with lyrics, but become instrumental by the end(which happens, but these seem to almost fade). The songs that do seem complete are great, including the title track, “Sparkle City” and “Aht Uh Mi Hed”. The weird thing is that this album seems really important for some reason. It seems as though there is something new here and I don’t know what it is. It’s a feeling, but nothing I can put my finger on.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? Yes I do, despite its flaws, it feels important and essential.

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
