1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

696. Next – The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

This Spotify link contains both the albums Framed and Next. Next is tracks 10 – 16.

Brief Background: Next was recorded in London in November of 1973 and released in the same year.

What I think: The amazing thing about this album is that it is so awful, but I still can’t consider it anywhere near the worst albums I’ve listened to. I mean it’s still in the top ten, don’t get me wrong. It’s just so stupid that it didn’t give me the headache normally associated with some of the horrible records. I it starts off with two awfully juvenile songs “Swampsnake” and “Gang Bang” that make AC/DC’s stupidest songs seem like decent poetry.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I strongly disagree, there is no reason for this to be here. There are two albums I really love that were released in 1973 and if those don’t make it, but this does I am going to be very upset.

Rating (Out of 5): .5

Framed/Next Amazon Review (Out of 5): 4.5

Is this my first time hearing this album? Yes (236/306)

Percentage of Albums that are new to me: 77%

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
