My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Bodhisattva is not available on Spotify. I purchased a CD copy to hear the song.
Brief Background: Countdown to Ecstasy was recorded in Colorado and Los Angeles, California and released in July of 1973.
What I think: I unexpectedly enjoyed Can’t Buy a Thrill, so I was excited to listen to this album. On the whole I think it’s a decent follow-up. “Bodhisattva” and “The Boston Rag” didn’t impress me, but with the rest of the songs they are in full Yacht Rock mode, a sound I thoroughly enjoy. It’s not even a guilty pleasure, just something that tickles my brain the right way. The best two songs in that mode are “Show Biz Kids” and “My Old School”, which kick some Soft Rock ass. The final two songs “Pearl of the Quarter” and “King of the World” are interesting as well for their CSN meets Prog-Rock sound.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I guess, it’s a solid record I see no problem with it being included.
