My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: The World is a Ghetto was recorded and released in 1972. It was the best selling album of 1973.
What I think: I’ve alway thought of War as a pretty interesting and cool band. I like their mix of socially conscious lyrics with a fun groove, but nothing that can really sustain my attention. In the end that is what this album is and I give very even keeled approval. The sounds in the songs such as “Where Was You At” and especially the beginning of “City, County, City” are really nice to the ears. This is particularly true for the horns. In the end though, it’s not really anything I need to hear again.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I can’t really find any fault it it… I’ll let it pass.
