My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: Made in Japan was recorded over three nights in August of 1972 in both Osaka and Tokyo, Japan. The album was released in the UK in December of 1972 and in the US in April of 1973.
What I think: Oh boy another Deep Purple album and look, it has almost all of the same songs as Machine Head …. just live this time! That means more awful screaming, plus extra guitar, drum and even keyboard solos.
I listened to this album on the way home from work the other day during a snow storm. I knew I would drive better that way, because there was no way I was going to let this me the last piece of music I ever heard.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I get it authors of 1001 albums…. you like Deep Purple. I think you could be a little more selective though. The studio album OR the live album take your pick, there are plenty of great albums that were left out.
