1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

750. Machine Head – Deep Purple

Brief Background:Machine Head was recorded in December of 1971 and released in March of 1972. The album was supposed to be recorded at the Montreux Casino, which started fire the night before it was to be closed for the season, thus allowing the band access. The fire inspired the song “Smoke on the Water”.

What I think: The only real positive thing I have to say about this album is that it didn’t give me a headache like In Rock did. This, I attribute to less shrieking vocals. Unfortunately, they are still as stupid as ever. To me, this is an album of bad metal that paves the way for Foreigner, Loverboy and other bands of their ilk. Not a good thing for the direction of popular music.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? No way that this should be here. I know the future that this album and sound will influence and it is not pretty.
