1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

751. Sail Away – Randy Newman

Original Album is tracks 1-12

Brief Background:Sail Away was recorded in Los Angeles and was released in May of 1972. All of the songs were written by Newman, but many were previously recorded and released by other artists.

What I think: I really feel the same way about this album as I do about Nilsson Schmilsson. It’s a decent album, but I just don’t connect with it. There is some humor here as well as real earnest feeling which to me is similar to Nilsson, and also Warren Zevon. But it just isn’t my thing, I wasn’t built to enjoy this genre of music.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? It’s certainly ok, just not my thing. It seems a shame to dismiss it, but that to me is for the best.

Rating (Out of 5): 3

Sail Away Amazon Review (Out of 5): 4.5

Is this my first time hearing this album? Yes (190/251)

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
