1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

756. Gene Clark – White Light

 Original Album is Tracks 1-9

Brief Background: White Light was recorded in early 1971 and released in August of that year.

What I think: This is a perfectly fine album with some decent folk songs in the vein of early Bob Dylan. “White Light” is one of these and is very upbeat and catchy. The problem with it though is that it wasn’t varied enough to keep my attention or even make much of an impression on me. I couldn’t even remember Clark’s name when telling a coworker which album I had just listened to (I didn’t make the connection that Clark was a former Byrd until I read up on the album).

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I don’t think this needs to be here. It really only has two songs, the fast one and the slow one. Although, this is an album that could come along at the right time in your life and it would be with you until the end.

Rating (Out of 5): 2
