My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: Coat of Many Colors is Parton’s eighth studio album and the third she would release in 1971. It was recorded in Nashville in March and April of the same year.
What I think:
I’m sort of on the fence about this album and what I think about it, and those feelings are really soft on both sides making it hard for me to take a stance either way on it. Essentially, this is a quick ten song album of some really nice, but not stellar songs. And while Parton is really good at what she does, her voice is a little too much for me at times. I have to give her a lot of credit for writing most of the songs, especially since this is her third release of the year and the years before and after had similar schedules.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I would have been alright with skipping this album, but on the other hand I don’t mind it being here either. I just don’t have a lot to say about it either way.
