My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: Third was recorded in April and May of 1970 and was released in June of the same year. This is a double album that consists of one nearly twenty minute song on each side (four sides = four songs).
What I think: The best way I can describe this album is Miles Davis crossed with the most proggy of prog rock you’ve ever heard. It’s a mess, a disaster, a nearly unistenable piece of music and it goes on for an hour and fifteen minutes. These guys are lucky they haven’t quite made the worst album I’ve heard. This after all isn’t as bad as those vocals (it’s mostly instrumental thankfully, because when they do decide to sing for a short period, it’s clear why they should have kept their mouths shut… some of the worst voices ever) on that Deep Purple album, close though.
I could say more, but I really just want to go onto something else….
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? It’s a bunch of crap… I want that hour of my life back.
