1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

801. Ananda Shankar – Ananda Shanker

Brief Background: Ananda Shanker was released in 1970. Ananda was the nephew of Ravi.

What I think: I wasn’t a big fan of The Sounds of India from Ravi, and thought this would be a similar burden to get through. In actuality it was really good. It had a great blend of Indian music with rock and roll that really gave it a pop sensibility with cool hooks. I really liked the “Light My Fire” cover and thought it brought a nice touch to the song. The most unexpected gem on the album was “The Ocean”, which starts out like a droned Ravi song but builds into a very hypnotic epic I enjoyed very much.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I think this album is a pretty cool oddity and don’t see a problem with it being in the list.
