1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

812. Close to You – The Carpenters

Brief Background: Close to You was recorded and released in 1970.

What I think:  I really tried to find a reason to like this album. I looked at it from different angles and tried to locate something in here that is for me. I failed miserably. This is just too light, too soft, too sappy, too pop for me. That’s unfortunate as well, because the albums lately have been sort of harsh, and something softer would have fit well and could have blown me away.    Blech!

On a side note, the ’70s sounds really started out early in the decade with Black Sabbath on one end and this Carpenters album on the other.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? No way, there is absolutely nothing redeeming about this album.
