My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: Songs from a Room was recorded during October of 1968 in Nashville and released in April of 1969.
What I think: This is a sparse recording often times with Cohen’s voice, an acoustic guitar and some other instrumentation mixed in quietly. All the songs are pretty short and run about 3.5 minutes, the whole album lasting just 35.5 minutes. I have to say I really enjoyed it, even though it often stayed in the background to my thoughts. If I have one complaint, it is that individual songs don’t stand out all that much.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I agree that this should be here, it shows me why Cohen is a revered as he is.
