1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

830. Elephant Mountain – The Youngbloods

Brief Background:  Elephant Mountain was recorded during various periods from 1967 until it was released in 1969.

What I think: While the music and vocals on this album is competent rock and folk music, it isn’t really my thing. So while I didn’t make a connection to it, I also don’t want to disparage it. The one song I did really enjoy was “Quicksand” which had a nice hook despite it’s dour topic.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I’m on the fence with this one, but I think it should be here. The album is interesting in the way it has a lot of instrumentation on it, but still feels sparse and open.

Rating (Out of 5): 2.5

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
