1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

882. Eli and the Thirteenth Confession – Laura Nyro

Brief Background: Eli and the Thirteenth Confession was recorded and released in early 1968. The album included a lyrics sheet sprayed with perfume.

What I think: Unfortunately, Ms. Nyro’s music is just not for me! She does do a good job with her style though. And that is sort of an operatic pop, jazz lounge thing. She certainly also seems way ahead of her time as it’s a lot like Carol King on Tapestry with a little more pizzazz.  In fact the song “Timer” is sung fairly straightforward for about 4/5 of the time and it’s actually enjoyable.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? While this isn’t for me, I think it should be here. I can just hear the influence on the 70’s singer/songwriter that would come in a couple of years.

Rating (Out of 5): 1.5

Amazon Review (Out of 5): 5
