1001 Albums You Must Hear (and Blog about) Before You Die

My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die

900. Something Else by The Kinks – The Kinks

Brief Background: Something Else was recorded over a year long period from April 1966 to July 1967. It was subsequently released in September of 1967.

What I think: The more albums I hear from The Kinks, the more I realize I’m just not a fan. The quirky English humor does nothing for me, I get nothing out of the characters in the songs and although they have a specialized pop-rock sound the hooks don’t do anything for me.

Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I have a hard time saying an album like this shouldn’t be included, since it is just a personal feeling of dislike. It’s well done though and I sort of see were this could have influenced The Beatles on the second side of Abbey Road, so I think it should be here.

Rating (Out of 5): 2.5

Today I started new position as an Academic Librarian at Normandale Community College. Half of my time will be spent on reference and the other half on classroom instruction. I'm very excited to utilize the skills I have, but more importantly learn a zillion new things about librarianship!
