My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: Disraeli Gears was recorded during a three day span in May of 1967 at Atlantic Studios in NYC and released in November of the same year.
What I think: I really enjoy the riff heavy songs on this album like “Sunshine of Your Love” and “Tales of Brave Ulysses” , but really didn’t enjoy the psychedelic songs like “World of Pain” and “Dance the Night Away”. Ginger Baker is an amazing drummer and I could listen to his parts all day, no matter what the song is… he should stick to drumming though, his lead vocals on “Blue Condition” are close to some of the worst I’ve ever heard.
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? This album sold well and has been a huge influence on a lot of musicians over the years, I think that there shouldn’t be any doubt as to whether this should be on the list.
