My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Brief Background: Da Capo was recorded and released toward the end of 1966. The album is among the first to have one track take up and entire side.
What I think: I will take a strong pass on this one. Songs such as “Stephanie Knows Who” have what seems to be layering of sound for the sake of it. It reminds me of some of the jazz records I’ve highlighted, which sound like everybody is playing a different song. Other songs like “Orange Skies” have some of the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard. Gems such as “Orange skies, Carnivals and cotton candy and you, And I love you too you know I do”. Deep stuff…
Do I agree or disagree with the writers as to this being an album you must listen to? I disagree… let’s move on.
