My attempt to blog all of the entries from the book 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
Background: Getz/Gilberto was recorded and released in March of 1965. The album is one of the best selling jazz albums ever. It won four Grammy’s in 1965 including Album of the year.
The Good and the Bad:
This is a very calming record. The instrumentation and the vocals from Gilberto are very rhythmic and soothing. It really sounds like a precursor to twee indie pop bands like Belle and Sebastian and I would recommend the album for anybody else that enjoys them. Personally, it is not really my thing, but if a song were to come up at random, I may leave it play if the mood suits me. And that’s the only way I could really enjoy it… a song at a time.
